Mission statement

The mission of the Valley High School Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program that addresses the academic, career, and personal/social needs of ALL Valley High School Students. The counselors are professional advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents or guardians, and the community, the counselors, the counselors facilitate the support system to ensure all students at VHS have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to society at the highest possible level.

School Profile

Weld Country School District RE-1 encompasses the three rural communities of La Salle, Gilcrest, and Platteville. Elementary schools are located in each of the three towns, middle schools are located in La Salle and Platteville, and VHS is located in Gilcrest. The main industry of the area is agriculture.

VHS is accredited by the Colorado Department of Education and the North Central Association. The enrollment at the high school (grades 9-12) is approximately 560 students. Roughly 65-70% of Valley's graduates continue their education by attending two or four-year colleges, mainly in the state of Colorado.

Valley High School offers honors courses in English I, English II, Geography, World History, Algebra, and Earth Science. Advanced Placement courses offered are English Literature & Composition and English Language & Composition. Dual credit classes are available through AIMS Community College and the University of Nothern Colorado. Please note that not all honors/AP courses are offered every year. In addition to the academic courses listed, the curriculum includes Agriculture Education, Art, Business & Computers, Consumer & Family Studies, Construction Trades, Music and Physical Education.

In 2012-2013, the Weld County School District RE-1 adopted a four-day school week. School is in session Tuesday-Friday, with students at VHS attending 7 credit-bearing classes every day. Classes meet for 55 minutes. Grade point averages and class rank are computed on a weighted, 4-point system. The mean score on the SAT for the graduating class of 2019 is 923.
